Both the classical Car Insurance and MyWay offer the same insurance cover, which the customer can select as required. However, there are some differences:
As a rule, MyWay benefits those who drive less than 7,000 km per year.
The best thing to do is use our premium calculator to determine your costs and whether MyWay or traditional car insurance will be your most cost-effective option. If you choose MyWay, you can take out your policy directly online.

After taking out MyWay cover, we will send you an adapter and a registration code for the autoSense app. You download the app and connect it to the adapter. You then install this in your car under your steering wheel using the ODB-II connection. The adapter will then measure each kilometer you drive and transmit this information to Zurich. You can view your kilometers at any time in the app.
We attach great importance to data protection. In addition to the basic data provided (policyholder and vehicle details, adapter status), Zurich only receives the kilometres driven, the connection status of the adapter and whether Zurich Services is activated in the app. This enables us to create an individual kilometre-based invoice. Data on your other driving behaviour, routes driven or other vehicle use will not be transmitted.
autoSense AG is our partner company and is responsible for the technical functionality of the adapter. Should you have any problems with the adapter, please contact the MyWay-team directly: myway@zurich.ch
No. MyWay is only available to private persons.
Unfortunately, this is not possible. However, you do have the option of taking out MyWay cover for each vehicle. The less you drive, the lower your insurance premiums. So, MyWay can also be beneficial for two vehicles.
The best way to work out the cost is to use our premium calculator. If you then decide on MyWay, you can take out your policy directly online.

With MyWay, we offer you the same level of cover as you would receive with classic car insurance. Where MyWay differs from conventional car insurance is as follows:
Type of billing
MyWay is billed monthly and per kilometer.
Greater flexibility
You can amend the cover provided by your insurance at any time and cancel your policy with 14 days notice.
Self-service offer
Among other things, the app allows you to adjust your insurance coverage or change your personal information.
For a direct comparison, please see the table at the top of this page.
The insurance can have recourse against whoever causes damage through gross negligence after a claim has been paid or can reduce the indemnity payment. Example: You run a red light out of carelessness, causing an accident. With the supplementary agreement on gross negligence coverage, Zurich waives its right of recourse or reduction (exception: alcohol, driving incapacity, speeding offense, risky overtaking, participation in unauthorized races with motor vehicles).
As the policyholder, owner and/or keeper of the insured vehicle, I am also insured if it is driven by another person. However, the applicable regulations and exclusions from the insurance cover must be observed in detail. Find out in our article how third-party drivers can protect themselves against damage.
The breakdown assistance applies to the vehicle insured in the policy and the trailer towed by it. The insurance coverage applies to all occupants, including the driver. You can choose between three coverage options:
Your free 24-hour service line in the event of a loss in Switzerland is 0800 80 80 80; dial +41 44 628 98 98 from anywhere else in the world
The car insurance applies in Switzerland and the Principality of Liechtenstein, European countries as well as the countries bordering the Mediterranean and the island states of the Mediterranean. However, the insurance does not apply in the following countries: Belarus, Moldavia, Ukraine, the Russian Federation, Georgia, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Egypt, Algeria, Lebanon, Libya and Syria. Breakdown assistance CH/FL is only valid for claims occurring in Switzerland and the Principality of Liechtenstein. Are you planning to go abroad in your car? Then don't forget to take the International Motor Insurance Card with you.
Car liability insurance is mandatory in Switzerland. Without proof of insurance from a company, you will not receive a vehicle registration from the road traffic office. Car liability insurance covers damage to other vehicles, people, or property that you cause with your car. You can easily calculate the premium online.
The insurance takes effect as soon as your car has been registered at the Road Traffic Office and you have the new vehicle registration document and license plates. We will send you your insurance policy and your premium invoice by post a few days later. You can find the precise insurance cover in your insurance contract.
The electronic insurance certificate serves as confirmation from the insurance company for the Road Traffic Office that the statutory liability cover exists. The insurance company forwards this proof electronically to the Road Traffic Office. Find out more about vehicle redemption and registration on our knowledge page.
If your premium is too high, please get in touch with us so that we can find a solution together, for example by adjusting your contract (call 0800 80 80 80 or use the contact form).
First check whether you can change your car insurance. A change is possible in the following cases:
Collect different offers for a new car insurance policy and compare them. Tip: Use our free insurance comparison service. With just three details, we show you how much you will pay for your car insurance with Zurich. As soon as you have chosen a car insurance offer, you should cancel the current insurance in good time and take out the new one.
Report the change of insurance to the Road Traffic Office. To do this, you need the insurance certificate and your vehicle registration document. You can also send the documents via mail to the relevant Road Traffic Office in many cantons. You can find more information in our knowledge article.
You will receive your invoice at the beginning of each month. This will contain the kilometers driven in the previous month. This means, for example, that your March invoice will contain the kilometers that you have driven in February.
Methods of delivery for your invoice:
Your invoice will be delivered to you automatically in the app and by mail. We recommend activating eBill payments in order to pay your Zurich invoice in order to save paper and protect the environment.
You can activate eBill payments easily via your bank's e-banking platform.
Methods of payment for your invoice:
Your invoice will be issued as a QR invoice. Accordingly, you may pay via QR code or online transfer. We recommend that you activate eBill as the payment method for your invoices. This way, your invoices will automatically be sent to your e-banking account and you can approve the payment there.
You can cancel your MyWay policy with 14 days notice. You may only remove the adapter after your policy has been canceled.
As a rule, all cars produced after 2001 are compatible with the adapter. During the process of taking out your MyWay insurance, we will check the compatibility with your car again.
On the English website of our partner company autoSense you can select your vehicle model and you will then see a photo, which will show you how to install the adapter.
As a rule, the connection is max. 60 cm away from the steering wheel.
Should you require further assistance, please contact the MyWay-team directly: myway@zurich.ch
When the LED is illuminated, the device is connected to the circuit.
If, however, the LED light is flashing, then the adapter is not connected to the vehicle. In this case, the adapter must just be dis- and reconnected. If you still have problems after following these steps, please contact the MyWay-team: myway@zurich.ch
If the adapter is correctly connected, the LED on the adapter will light up red. When the engine is turned on, the light changes color slightly to orange-red.
After your car has gone unused for 2 weeks, the adapter will draw minimal power (max. 1mA daily) from the battery. This energy consumption from the adapter will never fully drain your car battery. If the battery is low, the adapter will automatically switch off.
If your vehicle is left unused for more than 4 weeks, we suggest taking more proactive measures and moving your vehicle to a secure, dry space. This will prevent your battery from being drained.
A trickle charger is generally recommended for longer periods without use to prevent the battery from draining completely. A trickle charger keeps the battery 100% charged with a constant current flow.
