Good to know when employees leave a company: There are many aspects to consider when an employment relationship ends – including accident insurance and insurance for daily sickness benefits . We have compiled the most important information and documents on this subject.

For employees

When an employment relationship ends it is important for you, as an employee, to keep hold of the insurance coverage you need in case of accident or illness. If you are not immediately moving into a new job, then as an insured person you should be aware of the following.

Insurance for daily sickness benefits

  • If you are not starting work again immediately or will be away traveling for a longer period, you can switch over to Zurich individual insurance for daily sickness benefits.
  • This transfer must take place within 90 days from the date of leaving the company or after salary compensation has ended. (in the case of a current claim)

  • If you choose to be self-employed then Zurich Group Daily Sickness Benefits Insurance is the right choice for you.

Accident insurance

  • To stay optimally insured against the consequences of accidents when taking a break between jobs, we recommend an individual extension to the LAI insurance for non-occupational accidents (insurance by special agreement). 
  • Upon termination of an employment, you can extend your existing accident insurance coverage for up to 6 months.
  • This is also known as insurance by special agreement and ends automatically when you start working at least 8 hours per week again for a new employer.
