Hydrogen-powered truck on a mountain road

Fresh momentum for the mobility of tomorrow

Zurich is supporting the switch to electric vehicles. However, Zurich is also convinced that we should not just focus on one drive technology. That is why Zurich is supporting the project by H2 Energy to promote hydrogen propulsion.

In a time of serious climate change, it is a top priority for Zurich to take all necessary steps to limit global warming. This means that Zurich doesn't just want to minimize the negative effects of its operations on the environment and to contribute to the reduction of CO₂ emissions; it also wants to support pioneering projects for the world of tomorrow. This includes Zurich's commitment to H2 Energy.

The company from the canton of Zurich has set itself the goal of working with the private sector to put a total of 1,600 hydrogen-powered trucks on the road in Switzerland by 2025 and to establish a nationwide network of hydrogen refueling stations.

Zurich Switzerland is not only supporting the project as an insurance partner but is also backing the idea behind it. "We would do well not to focus on just one drive technology, but to create alternatives. This is the only way we can achieve the energy transition," says Juan Beer, CEO of Zurich Switzerland.

Green hydrogen alone is to be used to drive the trucks. Hydrogen is considered green when it is produced using renewable energy.

Hydrogen is a technology with potential. It is not only easy to store but also to transport. With green hydrogen, energy use is not only independent of the place of power generation, as is the case with batteries, which have to be charged in parallel with power generation, but also of the time at which power is generated: Hydrogen is easy to store. This opens up new opportunities for the mobility of tomorrow.

We would do well not to focus on just one drive technology, but to create alternatives.
